Corporate Fascism or Fascist Corporations?
Some among us may still believe it is hyperbole to call Bush a Fascist or to say that America is a Fascist nation. I think the linked article most certainly gives reason to view America as nation where Fascists have taken control.
Let's not forget that they have taken control for an extremely good reason......profit.
We are being governed by Fascist Corporations.....or Corporate Fascism. George Bush is their goose-stepping Howdy Doody puppet.
Wal-Mart is a perfect example and fits well with the 14 points of Fascism as laid out in the article.
Is it too late to fix America? How could such a fix now possibly be done?

Wow - I just linked to you. I have no idea how to fix it. Just know we can't give up.

"Just know we can't give up.
That's the one truth that we can cling to.
We may not be cool, glamorous or powerful.
We may be dismissed as moonbats, but
We are that last flickering match that may start the fire that saves America.
And we can never give up.
I think the first time I heard moonbats in a very long time was when you used it, Wadena.
People are not dismissed primarily for what they believe as much as how they articulate those beliefs and on what basis they anchor them to their underlying ideology.
Matches only work where there is something to ignite.
When somebody on the left suggests that trying to ignite wet wood is an exercise in futility, we are anarchists, or lack empathy, or are social darwinists or are enablers of fascists..or, well, you get the point.
The dilemma I have repeatedly stated despite the fact that it is not a popular question is why we keep looking to the government to remedy what they themselves are party to.
When government is self serving, corrupt, and insane- to what institution do we pin our hopes? The more I try to consider this though, the more people tell me I am sounding less liberal. I should stick with cheerleading. And jokes in poor taste. I should go back to being agreeable and optimistic.
Certainly it will be nicer to usher out civilization with a grin.
Lily, you should not "go back" to anything but being exactly what you are (whatever that may be).
Personally, I don't think America can be fixed.....but I'll wait until after the next congressional elections to say that for sure.
We pin our hopes on government, I think, because that's the system we know.
If we hopefully stick that pin in the compassion, generousity and benevolence of our friends and neighbors--we'll get the same answer that caused the government to fail.
It all comes down to people in the end.
I've been saying this for a long time. The ideals we grew up with are being replaced with the corporate ideal. Which jibes nicely with the Fascist ideal.
Well what I am is somebody who used to think that those who were evil were victims playing out their own victimization. Now I see there are many people who are just evil.
Whose hearts cannot be be reached by reason, fairness, decency, who cannot be warmed by the needs of others beyond themselves.
Good night Wadena. Thank you for your supportive ways.
I think this has been comimg for a long time as well.
It's not just the US though, it's the world!
The UK is coming along nicely re the 14 points of fascism.
Flew by from Granny's blog.
Lily, I am always supportive of good leadership--consider it a compliment to your creative and visionary actions.
Lew.....glad we think alike.
:)
And........you didn't say whether or not you think America can be fixed.
Sister Damnable.....thanks for flying in (windy out there today isn't it).
:)
Wadena,
A very thoughtful blog to look at: Coalition For A Republican Free America. They have excellent posts and I think you would like the collaborative effort there. I have their posts and other posts up at LTN blog, for Corruptco. So we can surf around.
I think I am just thinking we are heading toward that point of no return, and something more dramatic has to happen. Soon, cliamte chaos will be iireversible. And yet we sit on our hands. My imagination seems to turn to things that are not peacelike nowadays as a solution, and I am not happy about that. Peace must be the way, or we join them in their sickness. But what... that is what rests behind this agitation we feel.
But what do I know. Far too little.
How do we get a message to Obi-Wan Kenobi?
R2D2.....where art thou?
There is a missing component in our current scenario.
We have no secret resistance working to overthrown the evil empire--indeed........
The Rebel Forces seem to be playing video games, buying cappucino and sending humorous text messages to each other on their cell phones.
Damn....I do miss the sixties.
Yes, the rebels have been distracted by the lure of techno-cool. Rebellion is acceptable only when the target is those not hip enough to shop at A&F.
I dunno. I'm a bit old for A+F. And stores that sell shirts for eight year olds saying 'eye candy' - not really where I like to plunk down cash.
I hate these gadgets. Although if I ever DID text message, would you answer me Wadena? :)
I bet I could never figure that out, blackberry and all that.
The constant communication of the younger set seems a bit dysfunctional. What do they have to say to each other that's so important?
Are they so incapable of being alone?
I remember reading Thoreau as saying that he had heard that a telegraph line was being built to Texas and he wondered what we had to say to Texas that could possibly be worth all the trouble.
Indeed. I seem better suited to the slower and more reflective types of communication.....perhaps a message in a bottle.
:)
I guess all the techno-toys are filling some kind of unhealthy need.....and there must be a better way to fill it.
It seems that anytime I buy anything I feel like I'm doing a bad thing....I try hard to minimize my consumption.
I hate Wal-Mart and they hate me. Mostly because I refuse to pass through their doors.
Good words, TP.
In the end, I think that giving it your best is all that counts. I am looking forward with some hope to the coming Congressional elections.
Republicans could lose their majority status in the House and Senate.
That event could be (however small) a turning point.
If we don't turn at that point, I'm going to become VERY negative.
Wonderful commentary - and yes Lew - I agree. The America I grew up with - though flawed - still had ideals and believed in integrity. Now we worship mediocrity and incompetence has replaced skill in almost every facet of our society. Ayn Rand was rather prescient when she wrote The Fountainhead. The Toohey's of this world seem to have taken over the running of it.
FLS, I've often remarked that America, in better days, usually elected people who were regarded as superior to the voter in wisdom, if not intellect.
Solons.....and the president was supposed to be the greatest of these Solons.
Then came Reagan and Bush and Clinton and Bush.....Good old boys, Bubbas with issues--no Solons these.
There's a reason for their teflon.....America is highly reluctant to turn on them.
Why? Because they are the mirror-image of America.....dumb and greedy and in need of immediate gratification.
All of them killed innocents while in office. In Clinton's defense, he killed fewer and with better reason (although it may have also been that he was busy interviewing interns).
Fewer yes but he turned his back on many obligations, things that we point to when we speak of ourselves as a moral authority spreading Democracy. Yes, they apologized for Rwanda. Yes, they failed on many fronts to exert diplomacy when opportunities presented themselves. But economically, he turned things around. Or so it seemed.
NAFTA was another of his sins.....but he did make heavy cuts to military spending and balance the budget while staying away from huge tax cuts for the rich.....he was a Bubba, but a better brand of Bubba.
